Have had trips to SAT (San Antonio TX), MBS (Saginaw MI) and PHX (Phoenix AZ) in July. Also completed my bi-annual flight physical and bi-annual flight review. Finally it was time for OSHKOSH 2007!! I flew the Aeronca Champ to Oshkosh for it's first ever visit there. We arrived on Thursday July 19th and took her place in our usual spot in row 67W. It was an unusually NOT hot Oshkosh with very little meteorological disturbances throughout the week. Lots of people, lots of aeroplanes. Pat Wright took a few days out of hectic schedule (he is married now ya know) to join us, also, Chrissy's flight instructor and fellow C-5 loadmaster from Travis AFB flew out with his very cute and exceptionally smart (a Phd in I can't remember what)...to spend a few days with us. Of course Katie was also there to do her photo work for the International Aerobatic Club.
Most of our usual friends stopped by during the week, Dan Benkert from Rapid City, our friends Jim and Kevin from North Carolina, Bob from Chicago and his gorgeous Cessna 180, Eddy Reinhart, my ex-boss, now the NW maintenance manager in IND, Jimmy Rollinson from Vacaville, and a host of other folks.
This year we purchased a 4-foot sheetmetal shear for our shop. The big C-5 cargo plane was there along with the somewhat new C-17. The F-22 made an appearance but we did not see it fly. The only airplane that really caught my eye this year was a 1927 Stinson that I really liked, wicker seats and all.
After Oshkosh came the 2007 Doug Yost Aerobatic Challenge in Cumberland WI. This year I was the Technical Guy and Starter which kept me pretty busy throughout the contest. Great weather until the last day when we had to cut the contest short due to low visibility and ceilings.
I am currently back in SAT (San Antonio) doing some more maintenance training. I am also getting ready for my big bike ride of the summer, riding and camping from Missoula MT down to Jackson Hole WY. More on that later.
Here are some pics from OSHKOSH:
