Riding the Dalton Part 6 - up and over the Atigun pass
Ok, we approach the Brooks Range and the only high pass between Fairbanks and Deadhorse - the Atigun Pass... its only about 4,000 feet or so and in good weather it is no issue... but in rain or snow it can be a real nightmare. We met a Polish Girl riding a KLR at the Yukon who had told us it had snowed just a couple days ago in the Pass... she fought her way through it at 5 mph but managed to make it to Coldfoot for the night. We hoped it had dried out by the time we got to the pass - it had. It was a nice steady climb in the dirt/gravel but had to stop a few times to let the big haul rigs get by - as its kinda narrow up on the shelf. The top photo is the approach from the South side of the Atigun Pass, the lower photo is about 1/2 the way up. More photos to come...
