Riding the Dalton Highway - Part 1

The Dalton Highway which stretches from just North of Fairbanks Alaska to Deadhorse Alaska was made famous by the reality show "Ice Road Truckers".  About 1/4 of the road has now been paved.  The road parallels the pipline.  This road has killed a few truckers and motorcycle riders - it can be anywhere from an easy 60 mph cruise to a 10 mph nightmare - depending on weather conditions.  The day I rode UP the Dalton was perfect.  50 degrees and no winds or rain.. averaged probably 55mph all the way up took about 10 hours including rest stops.  I saw three moose and millons of carryboo on the way up.  The bears were there, but they remain elusive.  I carried my trusty .45 cal Springfield just in case.  More later.. Over & Out
